PCRC Backs IGP Egbetokun, Condemns Planned Protest

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has declared its unwavering support for the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, while strongly condemning a proposed protest reportedly led by activist Omoyele Sowore on behalf of retired police officers.

In a press release from its national headquarters in Abuja, the PCRC described the planned demonstration as “ill-timed” and a deliberate distraction from the “commendable strides” being made under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership.

Highlighting ongoing reforms within the Force, including improvements in community policing, intelligence-led operations, and welfare initiatives, the PCRC urged Nigerians to rally behind the police instead of politicising its efforts.

“The Nigerian people recognise genuine reform efforts and principled leadership when they see it,” the statement read, emphasising that retired officers have “dignified channels” for airing grievances and do not require intermediaries to speak for them.

Signed by the National Chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, the PCRC reiterated its commitment to strengthening ties between the police and communities, pledging continued collaboration towards national unity and safety.
