A 2023 data released by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, UNESCO, shows that Zamfara State’s percentage of out-of-school children rose from 41.1 per cent in 2018 to 61.4 per cent in 2022.
It is on this backdrop, that Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, came calling on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Arc Sonny Echono, in Abuja, to assist him transform education sector in the state.
Governor Lawal noted that Zamfara is not doing too well in education owing to the challenge of insecurity, hence, the need to support the state.
According to him, it is a known fact that without education, they will not be able tp achieve anything and they will continue to be backward.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of TETFund, praised the governor’s passion for human capital development, saying there is need to harness the potentials of the state for its educational development as Zamfara is rich in resources.
He disclosed that TETFund had already made some provisions on the issue of security as it affects public tertiary educational institutions.
Arc Echono also commended the Zamfara government for the recent massive increase of candidates from the state in the national common entrance examination into Federal Government Colleges.
